Growing strawberry plants in the greenhouse – this is how it works

You can easily grow your own strawberry plants out of seeds in your greenhouse  Schlossgarten. Here is a step-by-step guide for you:

1. Preparing the pop-up soil

Carefully open the pop-up soil without damaging the packaging and pour about 300 ml of water into it. After 2 or 3 minutes the soil will be swollen and feel quite loose – if you notice that the earth in the middle is still rather solid, you can still add some water until it is perfect.

Highly important: the earth should be moist but not wet. How can you test this? Take some earth into your hand and squeeze it. If water is trickling down, it is too wet and you should let it dry a little bit more before continuing to sow the seeds.

2. Positioning the nursery pots and filling them with soil

Place the nursery pots into your Schlossgarten and fill them with soil to about 1 cm below the edge of the pots. The soil needs to still be loose, so be careful and do not press it in too much.

3. Sowing the strawberry seeds

Sow the strawberry seeds evenly in the nursery pots (but do not mix the different kind of strawberries in one pot). Since strawberry seeds are so-called light germinators do not burry them but rather cover them lightly with a very thin layer of soil.

4. Taking care of the seedlings

Strawberry seedlings should be kept at a bright, warm place but they should not be exposed to direct sunlight.  Keep the lid closed and only remove it once per day for a short time to let some air in and ventilate.

Keep the soil moist but not wet (if it is too wet the plants might rot).

Depending on the kind of strawberry it takes around 1 to 3 weeks until small seedlings grow. If they are visible, the ventilation opening on top of the lid of the greenhouse can remain open (1 to 2 cm). This makes the plant more robust.

5. Planting the strawberries

So when are the seedlings ready to be planted in SISSI STRAWBERRY? For strawberries the general rule is that as soon as the seedlings have grown 5 leaves, they can be planted out.
